A coal mining search is the CON29M report your conveyancing solicitor orders when a property is in a coal mining reporting area — about a quarter of homes in Great Britain. It is issued from the Mining Remediation Authority's records (the Coal Authority, renamed in November 2024) and states recorded mine entries within 20 m of the boundary, past and present workings, mine gas, subsidence claims and whether the address is in a Development High Risk Area. Lenders expect one on the coalfield.

Yes. The Coal Authority has operated as the Mining Remediation Authority since 28 November 2024 (Coal Authority remains its legal name). A "Coal Authority search", "mining search" and "CON29M coal mining search" are the same report from the same body, and this check reads that body's published risk-area and mine-entry data.
